What are the benefits of eating avocado?

You've been eating avocados for a while now, but do you know about some of the potential benefits of eating them? No? Well Sam is back again with some of her favourite reasons for you to add more avocado into your day. And, of course it mentions our Super Greens Smoothie for you to try!

Have you ever wondered what the hype about avocado is?

I mean, people are eating them, spreading them and adding them into whatever meals and smoothies they can.

Avocados aren't just a trendy brunch ingredient, they're actually one of the healthiest foods around.

If you didn't know already, avocados are a tree grown fruit that are often referred to as a superfood because of their nutritional profile.

And there are many varieties available for you, but the Hass Avocado is the most popular by far here in Australia.

So now let’s dive into why you want to embrace the avocado and how you can incorporate it into your daily diet.

The top benefits of avocado

As with any of the wholefood family, there are plenty of health benefits associated when you eat avocado.

With so many, I'm really spoilt for choice when writing about all of the potential benefits of avocados.

So, I've only picked out a few of my favourite reasons to get more avocado into your life below.

Avocado is full of fibre

If there’s one stand-out macronutrient out there, it’s gotta be fibre.

Fibre has been associated with a reduced risk of dozens of chronic health conditions.

It nourishes the good guys in your gut, balances your energy levels out and help to keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t get enough fibre on a daily basis.

So a great way to add fibre into your day is by adding avocado into your meals as avocado are high in fibre.

A 100 gram serving of avocado contains around 7grams of fibre, which is nearly a third of your daily fibre needs.

Avocado helps you to absorb more nutrients

Eating a nutritious diet filled with wholefoods is a good start.

But if your body isn’t absorbing the nutrients from all of these healthy foods, you could still be at risk of deficiency.

Luckily, you have avocado here to save the day!

Nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin K and many antioxidants are fat-soluble.

That means that they need to be combined with a source of dietary fats for the digestive tract to absorb them.

As an excellent source of healthy fats, avocado can help you to absorb these nutrients more effectively.

Research has also found that adding avocado to a meal can increase the absorption of antioxidants by up to 15-fold.
