Throw in some powerhouse smoothie ingredients

You could try changing up the ingredients that make up the bulk of your smoothies.

One simple addition of an ingredient can change your frozen smoothies flavour or texture as soon as you blend.

Here are some suggestions for you to try.

Adding in some greens

We’ve got kale, silverbeet, spinach, lettuce and so much more to throw into your blender.

Add in these greens to get much needed vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals into your system.

For best results, you should try cook or steam these greens lightly before blending as well.

Go all out tropical on your smoothie

Fruits like pineapple, papaya and kiwi fruit are not only super tasty, but they also contain sizable amounts of digestive enzymes.

This means they’ll actually help you break down and digest the rest of your smoothie!

Berries are berry good

Berries have long been regarded as powerhouses of nutrition.

They tend to contain low amounts of sugar relative to fibre and a whole host of interesting compounds such as flavonoids, pectin and zeaxanthin to name a few.

They taste great with a natural sweetness to them and they also add plenty of colour to your smoothies too!

You can try different types of berries and get so many different outcomes too.

Fresh or frozen, well you get the idea.

Add in some little extras

Perhaps you like your smoothies already but you feel there is something more that you’re missing, that it can be just a little bit better.

You might end up looking for that nutritional edge or even just that extra burst of flavour for it.

So why not try adding in some of the following ingredients to change things up.

  • Cacao nibs
  • Protein powders
  • Cinnamon
  • Cashews, almond, pistachios, macadamias or any other nut
  • Goji berries
  • Frozen berries
  • Dried coconut flakes

Blend them in or chop them up and leave them whole, the choice is yours!

Start with solid smoothie foundations

Building a great ________ (insert literally anything here!) means having solid foundations.

So you must ask yourself, what is the foundation of my smoothie?

The liquid you use!

It can seriously make or break your smoothie flavour wise and nutrition wise.
